Eve, like any other online game I have experienced, cheap tactics are what individuals refer to you whenever the feel they experienced a loss of some sort to another person. Many times individuals will not only say, ôOh, cheap tactic!ö, but will resort to name calling, like ænewbÆ or noobÆ. The reaction usually consists of being called some sort of name to belittle the other person, or their methods employed to æwinÆ. Such name calling, and references to 'cheap tactics' has many uses and can be used towards a person who (1) has a æwinÆ against you, (2) towards someone who easily lost against you, (3) someone whom you tried to win against but did not succeed or fail.
Eve is interesting in that you never really win or lose, you may win ISK, lose ships and pods, win territory, lose a POS, win or lose power, fame, fortune, or glory, but no one can ever really win or lose the game. You may or may not achieve your goals however, and many would say this is winning or losing eve.
One person might say, æI am rich, have power, and have killed many, therefore I am winningÆ, while others may say ôI have won because I have never killed an innocent and have always been faithful to one corporation.ö
Is this to say one cannot specify to another that they are lame, cheap, or stupid? Indeed, psychology and perception plays a large role in an effort to attempt to control or change the environment in which one works, to make it more æwinnableÆ based on ones goals.
The article you point has many a truth to it. In cowboy movies you always see the honor of it with two of them facing each other, the one with the quickest draw winning. Really though, this was not how it was at all. Most of them hid in the dark of night and shot their opponents in the back. Does this make him an expert? Was if fair? Were their repercussions for his actions? Did he win? It certainly would not be considered honorable. Did he play by the rules employed in minds of those who would never do such a thing? And what rules would those be? The rules placed by those who donÆt want to get shot in he back in the dark of night?
